Cambodia-Thailand to Work Together to Achieve US $15 billion in Trade by 2025

PHNOM PENH: The new Thai Ambassador to Cambodia, Cherdkiat Atthakor, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, DPM Prak Sokhonn, on Thursday, 16 February 2023, to discuss the bilateral partnership between Cambodia and Thailand.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters related to trade and investment, employment, education, demining, infrastructure and connectivity, and international border crossings.

Both sides expressed deep satisfaction with the strong bilateral relations currently in place, and stated that they will continue to further expand cooperation in all fields between the two countries.

At the same time, the two sides also stressed the importance of engaging in joint efforts to achieve the bilateral trade target of US $15 billion by 2025.

Meanwhile, the two sides have committed to continue carrying out demining operations along the border without waiting for the border demarcation to be complete, while the relevant authorities of the two countries are also preparing documents for the Development Cooperation Program for the next three years (2023- 2025).

DPM Prak Sokhonn requested that Thailand continue to pay attention to Cambodian workers and continue to provide scholarships to Cambodian students.

The Thai Ambassador to Cambodia informed the Cambodian Foreign Minister of the preparations being made for his official visit to Thailand, which is scheduled to take place later this month.

According to a report from the Ministry of Commerce, bilateral trade volume between Cambodia and Thailand in 2022 reached US $4.6 billion, an increase of 14.23% compared to 2021.
